Why do they use BS numbers?

...it's a tactic that WORKS. The RIAA and MPAA are using the EXACT same tactic to gain sympathy in the public court and congress - hence DRM and other copy protection schemes that have appeared in the past few years.

They keep using the same tired lies even AFTER it's been proven to be less than truthful. CD/DVD sales haven't been hurt nearly 1/2 as much as they claim.

On a more positive note... At least Microsoft doesn't have it's own private army of stormtroopers (ala the RIAA/MPAA).

Yet.
