You two are just at opposite extremes
Non Zealot: It's proven fact that over charging on anything produces illegal blackmarkets. Lowering prices gets rid of crime by making it not lucrative to do the crime. Though you still need a punishment for this to work.

Linux GUY: Where do you draw the line? Is it ok to copy Windows and give it to a friend or to a dozen friends. How about to the world. Why not make profit and sell it illegally in your shop. That's slipperly sloap your on.

Meet in the middle. Sure some software is over priced and this is like throwing gas on fire when it comes to stopping piracy. Neat thing is if you throw enough gas on the fire you can put it out, but it take an awful lot. That's just dangerous though. So charging more and more allows you do heavier handed DRM to the point where you kill your business or get lucky have people locked in.

Now wouldn't it make more sense to be customer friendly and encourage people to buy your software at a fair price and allow them to use it in a fair manner? You'll never get rid of all the pirates but you'd sure reduce their numbers and if they are stupid enough to get caught throw the book at them.
