Time loses 50 billion dollars at checkouts

Because of all the people who read it without buying it!

Hot Band loses $55 billion dollars because everyone who listened to it on the radio didn't buy the CD.

You can't say you lost money when someone who was NOT going to buy your product anyway doesn't buy it. You only lose money IF they WERE going to buy it and now they don't.

Based on this, in the last year, the industry has "lost" $66 dollars (retail) from me on two DVD seasons of TV and $0 worth of music sales. I probably would have bought them but didn't.

It is -trivially- easy to record a decent copy of songs off of a good FM radio signal. There is no need to p2p most songs and take the risk.

The industry has GAINED $30 dollars on movie sales. I saw the movie only because of a download (wasn't even willing to pay to see it in the theatre) but I liked it enough to watch again and/or share with friends so I bought the DVD's that I would not have otherwise bought. (Millenium Actress is one- very good and Moulin Rouge was the other).
