receipt inside the bag?
Couldn't many of the problems involving e-voting be avoided by using "receipts" for votes cast? What I mean by this is simple: Have the electronic version counted first; and if any hints of fraud arise (however minor they may be) the physical medium may be used to verify (or refute) the integrity of the initial count.

This method could be used for almost everyone wanting to cast a ballot. Those that are out of town may cast their ballots and have their "verification receipts" mailed to their district within a reasonable amount of time. Those that are in a location lacking a quick or reliable postal system may use the Internet as a primary means of voting, with the receipt being more of a "just in case" measure that really not be necessary. And hey, if you're really lazy, why not go ahead and do the whole click-and-mail thing from home?

It may not necessarily be as easy or wide-spread as having a generic URL to go to (like Vote.gov); but a receipt could take many of the holes out of a purely e-ballot system... while introducing holes that we now already face.
