Where did you learn to drive happy
I get the point but there is a slight flaw in your argument which raises another point about all this.

Most people (I did say most) have been in a car with another driver and have had lessons in how to drive prior to ever getting the opportunity to put a car in to reverse at 70 mph so will probably already know that this isn't a good thing.

The corollary to this is the average PC user these days. How many PC users just see the advert for Dell or whoever, buy a PC, get them to install it in their homes and get told "click here to get on the net" which is their sum total of training - errr ... my beloved Mother for one (see below). M$ want market share, they also want to increase their market share. The only real way to increase their market share is to get more people who have never had a PC to buy one.

Therefore, unless they are prepared to give these newbies training equivalent to driving lessons to tell them not to put their car into reverse at 70 mph then they are just as responsible as the guy who exploits the bug.

I was once told "A faster processor makes your internet run faster" while acting dumb in a PC shop (I waiting for the girlfriend to finish buying out every clothes shop in the Mall) - it beats "does my butt look big in this" and with the right sales assistant can make the time fly by with their wonderful insight into PCs!!! His statement had nothing to do with the fact the PC he was trying to sell me was double the price of the one I asked about because I was apparently just another dumb loser who wanted to pay his mortgage off in one go .... no really, it didn't.

You can't argue that you should know about all these things before you buy either. How many people who own a car and aren't a mechanic could strip an engine and rebuild it? The same applies.

To summarise, the way M$ want to go they have to patch everything that comes to light. Just because the driver who has been driving for 20 years knows not to put the car in reverse at 70mph doesn't mean that the guy who has never even seen a car does. You do have an option - as Shakespear once said (kind of) "to install or not to install, that is the question".

ps if anyone wants to adopt my mother they are more than welcome. To have 1 day when I don't hear "My PC is broken, what do I do" down the phone would be truly wonderful happy
