Fools vs. Foolproof, fails either way. wink
"So you want MS to make all the decisions for us for what is safe. This encourages people not to think."

Which is a huge reason I uninstalled SP2 within two days.... MS decides to think FOR me, without even suggesting much less asking what I wish to do! What if I'm NOT a computer illerate person, have good firewall/antivirus/adware protection, AND have the common sense not to do things that would put my PC in danger?

Just like the fact that XP won't let me go into DOS. Or to be more accurate, won't let me KNOW how to get into DOS. I've tried and tried different "tweaks" as well as reading all over the place.... sure, I can reach FDISK with MS XP's so called "MS-DOS boot floppy" but that's about it. And I not only learned DOS well before Windows came into existence, but feel that I have the RIGHT to go into DOS on my own computer! Who gave MS, or anyone for that matter, the right to take away my usage of DOS or anything my PC contains? Granted, there ARE people who screw up their OS's, etc., but honestly the VAST majority of people I've ever known that don't know DOS are too afraid to use it anyhow.

"This also makes open source folks complain MS is controlling us."

I'm not an open source folk (aside from coding PHP but that's of course not my OS), and I've felt that MS has been controlling us for a long time. Refer to my previous paragraph for just ONE example, not to mention M$'s monopoly that they "Don't Have" (LMAO!!!).

"Make a OS foolproof and only a fool would operate it."

This is true, but then again MOST computer users ARE "fools" nowadays, IF only because Windows is what run DOS FOR us.... therefore, people don't learn DOS or what makes a PC tick period, as they rely on Windows (or any OS for that matter) to BE foolproof and then of course are let down and angry at their OS when it crashes, and they have no clue as to how they can take control of their PC's and make them operate the way they WANT them to rather than being limited to what their OS allows.

I'm not arguing with you, osreinstall, I do get your point 100%. Just giving another perspective, I guess.

In other words, my 2? worth... for what it's worth. wink
