The sentence may be resonable...
I agree on one point; in many of these places you make criminals out of innocent people and make the real criminals worse. But a 'juvenile facility' can mean many things in many states. Some can be as 'hard core' (or worse, believe it or not) as adult facilities and others may be just the ticket some criminals need to set them straight. That's hard to say; especially since we don't know the kid (though he seems to enjoy criminal activities, but maybe because he considers them harmless or 'cool' and that may be remedied with some punishment).

The lawyer may not have played as much the role that the sentence implies. We don't know his age or many circumstances surrounding the ruling. It seems he was cooperating with authorities and he may still cooperating (he admitted to crimes he committed and may be helping them round up other criminals). He pleaded guilty, which almost always reduces sentences. So this may be a reasonable sentence in the end (only time will tell).
