Wow, great thread, youse guys. You realize, of course, that you're both more in agreement than disagreement, right?

Native alien: I get yer point and I think you're right, but you've got an abstruse etymological deal goin' on with your definition of "proprietary" -- which you're using in a way that means "relating to property". I don't think that's the way most people define the term; the more common definition is something like "relating to proprietorship". I think that's where your terminology risks being misunderstood. It's pretty clear to me that you're making the point that unenlightened proprietorship is the problem -- that is, proprietorship that ignores the...er, TRUE proprietorship of intellectual property.

As I understand it, primary property theory holds that intellectual property ownership can't be transferred. Once an owner, always an owner. The owner can transfer his primary property RIGHTS -- or he can surrender them under an employment contract -- but that doesn't obliterate his natural ownership. Izzat correct?
