While it is true that your machine is not at risk of being infected, these sorts of attacks on MS PCs add unecessary load to the Internet infrastructure.

It definitely costs in terms of dollars and cents. It may eventually cost in terms of lost freedoms if it is perceived as "necessary for the security of the Internet" to eliminate any trace of anonimity when surfing the web. And that would be an even worse loss than the money.
