Good Point
I agree that purchasers of PCs should determine what OS they want. But its a sad fact that most people know little about PCs and are just anxious to purchase one to get on the internet, send email, chat with friends, etc. They don't have a clue nor even make an effort to find out there are alternatives to what is pre-packaged in the PC they have just purchased.

I am shocked at how many people I've talked to that are unaware there are other anti-virus programs and firewalls besides Norton and McAfee, which are already loaded onto the PCs before purchase. Most don't even know what an OS is.

The best scenario, of course, is to have a PC built to specifications, as you have done. But given the fact that most buyers don't even have a clue as to the choices they already have, Microsoft and its affiliates will continue to have a stranglehold on the market. And continuing problems with security issues, as well.
