jelly's revisionism
"Microsoft asserted in court that IE was integrated with Windows 98, and that Windows 98 could not be made to operate without it.

How on earth does that contradict what I said? Windows 98 is a packaged product of an OS and a window manager.

Australian computer scientist Shane Brooks later demonstrated that Windows 98 could in fact run with IE files removed [3]. Brooks went on to develop software designed to customize Windows by removing "undesired components", which now known as LitePC. Microsoft has claimed that the software did not remove all components of Internet Explorer, leaving many dynamic link library files behind"

Again, this corresponds perfectly with what I said. IE, the browser, can easily be removed. Removing the DLLs though will break a lot of functionality in the window manager.

So here we have Microsoft claiming that it is IMPOSSIBLE to completely remove IE, and we have YOU, saying that IE is not integrated into the OS and Firefox on Linux is the same thing yada yada yada. Get your story straight, can't you? You're contradicting Microsoft themselves on this.

Nope, you are wrong, as I've shown above. Sorry!

Please explain why IE cannot be removed from the OS? If you succeed in doing so you will have effectively undone Microsoft's "win" in the courtroom, since their every argument (as, for example, quoted above) is a matter of record and all of it refutes totally your repeated assertion that IE is not a part of the OS.

Neither I, nor MS, have ever claimed that IE is part of the OS (well, maybe MS has, to simplify things for the computer illiterate like you and Judge Jackson). It is an inexorable part of the Windows package however.

Can I use Firefox to install WIndows Updates? No? Why ever not? A browser is a browser, isn't it?

Because Windows Update relies on ActiveX, nothing at all to do with your fantasies of embedded HTML engines in OSs.

The botton line is Microsoft's decision to weld IE functioanlity into the OS at a low level won them the battle against Netscape and lost them the war against viruses and worms.

Maybe the fact that IE was the default browser had something to do with it. It also could be that IE, back then, was far, far, far superior to Netscape. Nowadays, I believe that Firefox is far, far, far superior to IE and, gash darn it, IE is losing marketshare!! Hmmm, looks to me like the superior product wins, whether it is "embedded" or not! There goes your little theory!

Firefox, a stand alone browser running on a non-proprietary OS, is NOT the same as a proprietary browser embedded at the code level into a proprietary OS from the same company. Now take your medication, and perhaps that MS PR will send you a nice new FUD sheet to work from.
Ad hominem indeed! Go to bed, it is obviously getting too late for you to think clearly. happy
