Windows Religiosity
Hi, John.

When it comes to this kind of thing, I'm pretty agnostic. Like most people, I spend most of my time in Windows, but I use Linux when I can. I think most of the religious fervor can be traced to the fact that Linux is such an underdog in this arena, and the fact that Microsoft, the 8000-pound gorilla, makes itself such a tempting target. A lot of Linux users (such as myself) were driven to Linux out of frustration with Windows, so we (understandably, in my view) look at Windows with a certain measure of distaste, not unlike when you break up with someone, and look back on it asking, "What in the world did I ever see in her/him?" Now imagine that you have to work with your ex every day. From a Linux user's perspective, that's the kind of resentment it can breed if you're not careful.

Of course, it's possible to get to the point where you can "still be friends" with your old OS, and that's the point I'm at now. (I'm learning Visual Basic atm, and "Rome: Total War" doesn't (to my knowledge) come in a Linux variant.)
