Come to think of it
I HAVE seen *one* model of computer that came with Win2k formated fat32. It was a Dell at a business that I do work for.

No, I don't do application delelopment (what does that have to do with anything?) - I do systems/network administration, and I've seen dozens of models of laptops and desktops from several different vendors come through the door in the last five years - all with the drives formated NTFS by default. We don't buy Dell's so maybe that's why I've never seen these fat32 systems.

In Unix OS's, libraries can be placed any place on the system too, and the problem of dependencies has never been dealt with at the OS level like in Windows. With UNIX you are at the mercy of whatever package management system you use. I don't suppose you do application deveoplment for linux/unix too?

Aside from default settings, no one here has said anything about Windows that doesn't also apply to UNIX. NTFS has much better security features built into it than your average UNIX filesystem. The closest UNIX comes to NTFS in regards to security are Posix ACL's, and most linux/UNIX distro's don't come with these enabled/used by default. Encryption? Yeah, NTFS does that.

So, since no one has answered, I must go back to my ORIGINAL question. What makes Windows file system so 'insecure' compared to linux/UNIX file systems?
