DLL Mess...
Yes, "DLL hell" is part of everyday reality in Win32 programming. This is something everyone fights with.
I came to conclude a couple of years ago that Linux is not that much "tidier": shared libraries can be installed in a multitude of places (even though /usr/local/lib is advisable), spawning a different kind of hell: libraries and shared objects hell. Rather than version conflict, one finds multiple, hard to track, instances/links of files with a small variation (that being version number, GNOME/KDE specialization, etc.).
Bash scripts are not a luxury, they are a necessity.
