What is your favorite method

for determining what length registry key software is going to use in the registry? Do you reverse engineer each application and check registry key lengths before installing them?

I'm just curious how you would have "dumb users" check for this. Ideally, they wouldn't install malware in the first place. However, you seem to be calling people dumb for not checking registry key length prior to installation.
