Locksmoths
I use unix at work daily, I use Linux at home daily, I also multiboot, XP Po & Home, WIN ME, 98 and still use OS-2 occasionally. I am extremely proficient as MS_dos batch file programming and DOS. I started with an altair eagle/home built in the late 60's and am profocient in various versions of 8008, 8080, and Z-80 assembeler.

I am sick of the babyish whining and complaints concerning which operating system is better. I originally started with an apple 1 as my first computer, using the 6502 processor and am proficient in coding for its various incarnations. The apple machines are OK but not considered mainstream. They are a very limited in capabiliy except for graphics, the mail detriment is the cost of the hardware and software. About 2 years ago PC's surpassed Apple capabilities. Today the PC's do everything that the Apples do and as a very inexpensive cost factor. Probably one of the main reasons for Apple abandoning the Motoroal processor and now utilizing the Intel. Apples claim to fame was their OS and they are now working on porting their system to use the Intel chip. In a year or so Appke's OS will probably be avaialable for all PC's and hopefully this will give us the users a mainstream alternative to Microsoft.

Now back tp the main topic. Locksmith's by profession open doors that are locked and doors in which the keys are lost for cars housses, etc... . They are the equivalents of the Modern day crackers, Tweakers, Hackers. The same analogy for lockwork applies to operating systems. "What one man invents the ultimate lock another will figure out how to circumvent. The advance of knowledge is inevitable. Todays "State of the Art" becomes tomorrows common place technology. Is Micorsoft responsibe? In a word NO! If you want to place blame try Charles Babbage. He invented the first mathematical engine, Babbages analytical machine. If he did not start the process of calculating computers would not exist today. In point of fact blame the Chinese, ever hear of an Abacus, for that matter the first caveman that correllated the size of his sheep herd by placing small pebbles in a bag to count his sheep, the rudimentory memory storage device.
