I keep a radio in my office, but under the ridiculous laws as they stand now, I am in violation of the DMCA because someone in the next cubby *might* hear it. That constitutes "public performance" and ASCAP can take my radio and fine me if they so choose. Same with playing a CD where it could be heard by someone who *might not* own it. It has become a race to see who can come up with the stupidest restrictions.

And then you see what happened with Jack Valenti's little ploy? At least three Oscar screeners turned up on the download services, each most likely cloned by someone at the copy service. Why bother to distibute? Each of those titles has been out there since initial release anyway, but Valenti will make a big deal about "piracy," loss of revenue and all that mess... Then he will pull the screeners again, keeping great independent films from getting the exposure they are due. Sounds like the MPAA took lessons on how to p!ss off everyone from the RIAA.
