Copyright protection is important. It protects the authors and performers. File swaping to avoid payment for the song, movie, etc is illegal.
If you think the price of the music is too high--don't buy it. There is nothing in the law that says everyone has to be able to listen to his choice of music at what he determines to be a reasonable cost.
I have a few CDs I play in my car and listen to the radio--I don't know when people have time to listen to hours of music.
Jail terms are not reasonable. Fines should match the crime.
The foolishness, name calling and other similar behavior in these posts should stop.

For the record, I am not employed by Microsoft, am not a lawyer, do not work for the record industry and I use computers to do my work--I don't work, program or design computers.
