Watching all these viruses, worms and all kinds of mutating or not malware flying around hitting ms windows left, center and right. It is like watching a science fiction movie, something happening far, far away....
I cannot understand how people can just sit down, taking it and doing nothing about it. Ofcourse they spent good cash to buy tons of the 'protection' s/w or re-installing the various beta patches. Only to get hit again by something at some unexpected time.
This is like addicts of junk food: instead of curing themselves by switching to HEALTHY food they only want to take some pill that will remove the symptoms of the negative consequences ...
And I suppose you eat some macrobiotic health food diet and never have a Big Mac or a bag of Cheetos cross your lips. The 2nd half of your post sounds like a twisted version of that 70's era gag tune - Junk Food Junkie. Well... Ok Mr. Natural. Whatever.
The bottom line is your post is nothing but a diet of FUD. You make it sound like all you have to do is turn on your computer to get an infection. It ain't THAT simple. At the very least, be honest about it. MOST worms use some form of social engineering - including the one discussed in this article. For the record:
"When it hits an English system, the worm sends out the following message: "haha i found your picture!" The message is sent to everybody on a user's contacts list. The message includes a Web link that when clicked on will download malicious software that installs a backdoor and furthers the spread of the worm, Jaros said."
Now, it sounds to me like people have to give into the temptation to see what the message is all about - and given that an established contact is the one sending the IM, it's THAT much easier to get you to the site.
As far as buying protection goes, a little prevention can and usually is prudent. It's like this. If you're cruising singles bars for a one night stand, it would be bloody insane to do do the horizontal mambo with some relative stranger without a condom. I don't care how macrobiotic, organic, and otherwise "healthy" your diet may be, if you do it with someone who's got an STD, chances are excellent that you're gonna catch whatever they've got. The irony, of course, is you're probably going to use a TROJAN to protect yourself in this sort of situation.
For what it's worth, I don't care what OS your computer may have, Windows, Linux or Mac OSX. There's always a chance that your machine will come across some nasty little bug that CAN possibly wreak havoc with it. Sure, with some OS's, the odds may be reduced significantly. Big deal. Your turn will come eventually. Some wiseguy will figure out a way to rip Linux a new one and then whatcha gonna do..? - Posted by: Wolfie2K3 Posted on: 08/25/05 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
