Noaxe Rockshade : Hello, I'm here to demonstrate once and for all that Microsoft are, as they always have been, and indeed will continue to be for evermore, completely and totally blameless for absolutely anything they might be accused of, which doesn't sound like bum licking. I'm standing here in PC World and I'm going to poll a few REAL computer users.. Hello sir! May I ask you a question?
Joe Public : Sure
Noaxe Rockshade : Do you feel Microsoft should take any of the blame for the endless stream of security exploits, worms, trojans and viruses that have dogged it since it's early inception and the Brain virus on Windows 3.3?
Joe Public : Yes, definitely. I mean, I was reading on The Register (http://www.theregister.co.uk/2005/08/19/0day_ie_exploit_fears/) this morning that one of this week's Windows exploits is aimed at one of the 17 currently known, unpatched IE flaws. Microsoft say there is no patch, but there is a workaround - you can disable a bunch of features like ActiveX which you've already paid them for, and it lessens the risk of you getting clobbered. Pretty disgusting, I say, if you had to remove your car radio and your speedometer in order to be able to start it up, I think you'd pretty soon get fed up of that make of car!"
Noaxe Rockshade : You long haired hippy zealot, why don't get you back to your mommy's basement, that's not the right answer at all! I'll ask this middle aged couple over here. Excuse me, do you think Microsoft are in any way to blame for all the problems you have with your computer?
Fred Public : "Well if there's cat poop on your front door, you sure don't kick the dog for it, do ya - "
Noaxe Rockshade : "Oh dear lord save us from smart assed Apple users, ha ha, one day Apple might sell another computer -"
Fred Public : "Yeah, and it would run for month after month without needing a coupla hundred gigs of patches on the patches which were patched onto the patches patched the previous update day -"
Noaxe Rockshade : Zealot! Moving swiftly on, here's a typical computer user, an average looking mom and pop. Excuse me, do you blame Microsoft for selling you a product which is so inherently defective that it's a full time job keeping it useable?"
Jane Public : Why sure, and I heard what that man just said about the latest exploit, Microsoft themselves say on their website that there ain't no patch available to fix it, what's a common ornery folk like me to do?"
Noaxe Rockshade : You stupid user! Jeez, stupid users who bring all these problems on themselves by not paying out lots of cash to become MCSEs, you make me sick! I never have a problem, stupid users like you give Microsoft a bad name! Jeez, Microsoft have published a workaround, all you have to do is disable ActiveX controls! Then, set the kill bit for msdds.dll and unregister the msdds.dll! Stupid user, fancy not being able to do that! How simple can it be!!!"
Joe Public (interuppts): Well, The Register also points out that using an alternative browser to IE is also an option -
Noaxe Rockshade : "Shut up you Linux geek, people DEMAND the right to be forced to use IE, unpatched flaws or not! Go compile a driver you freak, what do you know about computing?"
Joan Public "Don't you talk to our Joe like that, he's just installed Mandrake on our old PC and we haven't had a spot of trouble on it since, reckon we might just drop Windows altogether! Especially since this new Vista thing is going to need us to buy a new, bigger, more expensive PC!"
Noaxe Rockshade : No! Wrong! No ! Because Microsoft's Get The Facts campaign PROVES you're all wrong, see! Microsoft rule! Aghhhhhhh! Aggggggg!
