desktop PCs wont disapear so much as they will evolve into different devices.
Come on get real, office workers wont use tablet PC's unless their in a warehouse or some environement where they need to walk around with basically a "handheld PC". Thats really all a tablet PC is. More loaded words from our media moguls and marketing folks.
Workers at the office that sit at a desk will still use PC's, but there will be growth of thin clients, which basically is just an extension of a PC, where you connect to the server VS having a machine reside on your desk with a local drive etc.
The concept of using a machine to run software and connect to the network is all the same whether its a PC, thin client or tablet PC. Its only the loaded words and merketing slogans that change, although I will admit thin clients will ease the cost of implementing a full bore PC computer on each desktop
