The Fix is IN with Longhorn
Windows will never be secure, it wasn't designed with the
slightest thought towards security. It will take a major re-
write, essentially a whole new operating system.

That is precisely what Longhorn is, a completely new
operating system. Microsoft has a last best chance to
secure their OS by scrapping Window's poorly designed
code base and starting with a clean slate.

Longhorn can be as secure as BSD or OSX, but to do this
Microsoft must be prepared to limit compatibility with the
existing code base. Just like OSX did with OS9 applications.
They provided a controlled mode ("Classic') in which to run
previous generation programs.

But as they unveil their plans, it seems that Microsoft has
opted to secure Longhorn with hardware designs in both
the CPU and the motherboard, rather than just writing
good, secure code.

Microsoft is locking users in, as well as malware out, with
the design of Longhorn and it's hardware dependancies.
The walled garden of Windows will become the
concentration camp of Longhorn.

To use the airliner analogy, Microsoft is building an airliner
alright, but they are building it out of cast iron. It has no
'windows" for you to see out of, and it is piloted by remote
control from Redmond. It has only passengers, and because
the doors are all one way, you can't even bail out. Enjoy
your ride, but is that really where you want to go?
