Even BASIC is subject to buffer overflows.

But in C you can include a function that traps the overflow but it slows down the program and increases it's size.

Overflow occurs when too much data is input to the program too fast at which time the buffer continues past the size it was set to be. And starts writing into the program's code.

This is what AMD and MS are trying to fix by seperating the data and the code, the code is in a RAM location that is set to 'read only'.
