Absolutely foolproof strategy
My daughter recently bought a laptop with her own money. It has XP SP2, and at only 1.5GHz it is ten times faster than my 3 GHZ souped up desktop at work. The difference? Her laptop has NEVER been connected to the internet, not even through dial-up. NO questionable floppy disks, memory stick, or homemade CD's are allowed near it. So - it has no need of anti-virus, firewall, or anti-spyware software that slow it to a crawl. ALL personal information is kept on the laptop - we have one desktop at home that connects to the internet. It has all the security - but NO personal or financial information, nor will it ever. We sacrifice on-line purchasing, on-line banking, etc. that way, but who cares? Those are becoming so risky eventually people will desert them in droves. I am convinced the "virgin PC" approach is the only viable approach to internet security. Many people in my income bracket are doing things like this - or have no on-line presence at all. They let agents or lawyers do it all for them. The unfortunate fact of life is - if you have money, there are people who want to take your money. The bigger the pile, the more tempting the target. My job is to keep it from happening. Now that I have foiled the internet thieves, I must concentrate on the politicians.
