You are on the right track, but wrong.

No, most criminals lie. Most problems come from people that also happen to lie about who they really are. The From: can be anything you want. That is not undesireable. It allows me to send mail to someone from "ME" at a different workstation, or geographical location.

The problem is that all our software trusts this field to be honestly presented. Our software needs to validate/reject based upon the ACTUAL origion, NOT the "stated" source. Easy fix.

The "From:" spoofing protection is NOT an easy or reasonable change to make. Make the actual physical connection (ISP) be responsible and reachable. Then we can inform him of a problem with his subscriber, and HE can take action, or be BLOCKED!
