On the one hand you have
the Travelocities, the Pricelines and the Orbitz'es that can execute rather complex queries and correlate flights, hotels, cars, etc and present you with 'endless' combinations of your options in 10-15 seconds. And they process large amounts of data for each query. Let alone the Google, search engines.

Let's say they have one tera-byte of disk storage. How much these systems may cost? 10 million $$$ ?

I think that the only people who benefit from this wasteful mess is the organized crime and all the big time creeps....
