I Don't Necessarily Put The Blame On Analysts
I have long told everyone I know that the best thing to do is set up a Linux box for just e-mail and web surfing and office apps, if they want to game and do other things like media or CD writing to do it on a Windows box. This way you have an almost foolproof way of preventing spam and viruses considering the overwhelming majority of it is propagated through a Windows system.

Machine 1:

Linux
Firefox
Thunderbird
Open Office

Machine 2:

XP
CD/DVD burning
Media
Games

Another thing to do is set up a separate e-mail account to use for nothing but business or personal stuff, and another for doing business through ordering through Amazon, Ebay, Newegg, etc....this way you know one account won't have crap in it and the other (mine is a gmail account) has spam filters so at least 70% of what makes it into the inbox is legit.
