The problem is
when they have to set up their email account, and the ISP's web page doesn't have instructions for, say, Thunderbird, so they call the 800 number and tell the tech what they need, and the tech asks what OS they're using, and the customer replies, Suse 9.3, and the tech says, "Oh, we don't support that. Thanks for calling ISP." *click* What's Joe user going to do then?

I'm not saying this is right, I'm saying this is how it is.
