What the article fails to make clear, and what you perpetuate, is that SPF and/or Sender ID, by itself, won't do anything. It was never intended to. What SPF *would* do, if adopted more globally, is allow blacklists and filters to work much, much better.

84% of authenticated messages were spam? Excellent! That means that over 4/5 of authenticated messages were much more easily discarded as their domains were most likely on blacklists.

If, say, SPF adoption rose to, say, 70%+ then we could set filters to tag all un-authenticated messages as spam. All *authenticated* messages wouldn't get a green light, they'd just pass that first test, then be scrutinized against much more effective blacklists.
