My feelings exactly !
` "The fact that MSH is used as the execution vehicle is really a side-note, as it does not exploit any vulnerabilities in Monad," Holmes wrote. "The guidance on shell script viruses is the same as the guidance on all viruses and malware: protect yourself against the point of entry, and limit the amount of damage that the malicious code can do."''

That is right ofcourse, the presence of a shell language processor does NOT imply automatically system compromise. Let's see ....

``Toulouse gave no details on why Monad won't be part of Vista. He did say that the new shell is "being considered for the Windows operating system platform for the next three to five years." ''

What ? So if Monad is NOT any more vulnerable than any other stock shell, then WHY is NOT included as they were planning initially? Strange....

It must be that Monad in itself is not any more vulnerable, but maybe within the Exchange environemnt they were planning to use it, Monad scripts embedded in http/emails could start running without the control / authorization by the recepient?

``Microsoft is responding to the online publication of five examples of malicious code
---------------------------------------^^^^^^^^^^^

that target Monad. The tool was initially intended to be included in Vista. When news of the exploits came out, it triggered reports that they would be the first viruses for Windows Vista.''

Summary: Monad is not any more vulnerable than any other stock shell. MS decided NOT to include it as part of the Vista after the the online publication of five examples of malicious code. Hence, Monad in Vista is vulnerable or otherwise MS would had included it to silencse its critics and demonstrate its sophistication in providing .... shell environments.

BTW, WHY does MS have to take until 2006 and 2007 to release the Monad shell? They were claiming that shell scripting are the unsophisticated ways of the past, exercised by the simple-minded CLI admins.....

It is NOT that easy for MS to build a shell? Then Use PERL/Bash/ksh or Rcl/Tk which ALREADY EXIST for the ms windows and many people USE.

Remarkable lack of skills.
