I remember

The posts that crop up here consistently regarding the nastiness of the internet all blame M$. I don't disagree that M$ is an
a--h---e, greedy, irresponsible organization, but I can remember when the Internet was bursting on the public scene. Several flags were flown regarding regulation of the Internet which were resoundingly beat down by the geek cognosenti. M$ was irresponsible in the tools it provided to bring the Internet to the public; but, if cleaned up, it is a tremendously useful technological tool. It would have been easier to keep it clean from the beginning, rather than clean it up now (the researchers suggest a "new" internet is the only way to do that), and the technology community is to blame for that boo-boo.
