When the MS windows laptops return
start attempting to INFECT anything MS windowoes on campus attached to the network and start broadcasting spam/phish-email.

The UNIX/linux mail-relay gateways filters this crap out. It has saved the netrwork BW and the overflowing email storage.

Now as for the UNIX/Linux viruses, the AV "solution" is IRRELEVANT. Any flaw is DIRECTLY fixed at the point it existed. Usually in UNIX/Linux this is some buffer overflow vulnerability, which could lead to the application crashing. UNIX/Linux kernel flaws that can be exploited to compromise coccur EXTREMELY rarely and they have been exploited even MORE reraly IF ever.

All UNIX platforms I know of can be set NOT to execute code from the stack and the data mem. segments. This PRECLUDES the POSSIBILITY of running clandestine code inserted via buffer overflow.

So this discussion for 'Unix/Linux' AV is addressed to the scared and confused people who are used to getting compromised left and right in their fine MS windwoes 'os'. I am sure that the ms crowd moving away from the ms windows crapform NEED to HAVE the tons of AV, etc. s/w to feel safe.

Poor people .... their mind is shaded by fear and comfusion....

But GO AHEAD and REVEAL to us the UNIX vulenrabilities and history of break ins. I am really interested in learning here.
