Overreacting huh....
I'm not waiting for a collector to call me threating to seize my bank account, garnish my wages, attach judgements on me or lein my property because of incurring debt due to some id thief. This is one of the few good things congress could due to help people ( and ultimately commerce in general) because if people start doubting the security of transactions, they will start minimizing them.

I have starting using more cash as result of these security lapses. Additionally I STRICTLY limit things I apply for, (eg insurance) and give no information for surveys, mailing list. etc. Business should realize the how vulnerable their business is if this id theft continues.
