That is so much bull
"The entire anti-virus industry is there because Microsoft did a poor job at securing their OS."

That may be true. I'm not sure of the history of the whys.

"You mean to tell me you're selling me an OS that you say is insecure. Now you want to SELL me protection."

I'm curious as to what kind of a world you live in. Do you have locks on your house, car, safety deposit box, bathroom or are your things and places that secure you do not have to lock them? Do you not own a miriad of insurances (life, auto, home) to protect yourself ina financial calmity?

"What I find particularly outrageous is that there are people that actually think this is a good thing."

If Microsoft can use these new tools to make their operating system more secure without increasing the cost to the consumer then what is the problem? Micrsoft has an obligation to the customer to find ways to make the operating system more secure. Outside of increasing the opportunity to make more "OBSCENE PROFITS" that is their motive here.

"It's nothing less than extortion on a
grand scale."

Finally tell me how MS is extorting anything from the consumer. AV and Anti-Spyware programs are a necessity. While IMNSHO OSX and Linux are much more secure operating systems "it" is suggested to run AV programs on those. That is not extorition. Microsoft has not and will not say that you "have" to run "their 3rd party" sotware to protect yourself.
