Control the platform, print the money ...
Impressive. Take an inherently flawed product - Windows - and use monopoly power to push it out to 90% of PC users. Break the law along the way - the seven convictions for illegally maintaining that monopoly which Microsoft incurred can now be seen in their true perspective. The fines they incurred were irrelavent to a company with $50 billion in the bank. And as for the "remedies" - well, as Microsoft's stance with the EU shows, Microsoft consider themselves above the law, and remedies are simply ignored. So, having established, and illegally maintained a monopoly, it's time to garner more revenue. What do Microsoft do? Well, there were a load of companies who used to make a living from selling software which addressed some of Windows deficiencies, particulalrly, the inherent vulnerabilities to virus which Windows has. With 100,000+ Windows specific virus and other rexploits out there, and an average of 4 new ones every single day (as anyone with auto updating anti-virus on their corporate network will confirm), these companies were making a mint. So Microsoft bought some of them - and now punters will be expected to pay Microsoft for protection from the malware which shoddy Microsoft engineering has made inevitable and un-ending.

Did some posters mention that they would use free AV solutions? Sorry, peeps, but Microsoft will sabotage free solutions in the way they sabotage every other 3rd party competition to their own brands - they control the platform, and each succesive security update will move the goal-posts, tilt the platform, break compatability every few weeks to keep the 3rd party software houses on an endless treadmill of upgrading their code so it will continue to run on Windows.

Fantastic.

If Microsoft sold pies, they would be riddled with maggots, mouold and festering bacteria, and when you bough one, Microsoft would also make you pay for antibiotics at the point of sale.

Disgusting, but entirely characteristic price gouging of the user from the world biggest (and most un-ethical) monopoly.
