Patience
You've been told to be patient. Well, patience wears thin when you are consistently bombarded with clueless people.

You repair the problems. I, on the other hand, teach computer orientation and operation to senior citizens. My observation is that most of my students want me to figure out and fix their computer problems. Older men, especially, like to fall back on the old saws: "I'm too old to learn anything about computers." "I have short-term memory loss. So forgive me if I don't remember anything you've said." These same excuses apply, also, to digital camera operation.

I get calls throughout the day, into the night, and on weekends, holidays -- any time -- from the older students who opt not to figure out a solution to their problem, but find it easier to call me. Thank goodness for cell phone caller I.D.

FYI - I'm one of the older folks who chooses to figure things out. So, I'm not prejudiced towards older persons. Just frustrated some times after what seems to be a lot of talking to brick walls. I've also discovered that there is a corps elite among many of the older set that's best stated: 'The less I know about my computer, the safer I will be.' And I've had many in my classes actually brag about their safety-in-ignorance philosophy.

So, my advice for all computer repair techs is to buy a hip flask and refill it often.
