I have nothing to scream about...

I'm not hear to scream... Just to educate.

There is a better way of preventing these kinds
of attacks. Expecting users to "take
precautions" or follow a convention is error
prone. All users *should* keep their virus
definitions up to date, and they *should* scan
attachments before they run them, but not all
users do that. You are expecting them to follow
a guideline -- a convention. The users will
always disappoint your expectation and
carelessly infect themselves. The only
practical solution is to *enforce* the
guideline. The securing of one's system
shouldn't be a loose knit list of guideless and
"You really should..."'s. On Windows, security
is ultimately *optional*. System security must
be *mandatory* -- built into the system from the
ground up. Enter Linux/Unix.

I won't bore you with all the gritty details of
why these problems don't exit in Linux (and
never will). At the end of the day, I'm trying
to advocate the need for mandatory security and
application isolation. You can cross your
fingers and hope that people won't do these
nasty things, but someone always will. Jumping
up and down and screaming for leagal action is
apropriate, but ultimately uneffective.

Secure your system, your data, your identity,
your life, by running a secure platform. That's
the real solution.
