Bah...you seem to have overlooked we are in the 21st century! Today's real crims ...

(1) do their exploit development in labs so you will only see feeble script kiddies (aka cannon fodder for the govt. spooks to expend resources on) running probes on the net proper, and
(2) when inside they don't advertise ownership with crass BSOD or $10K bank account pillages.

Todays ultimate exploits are so low band that the average noob and even some skilled types won't even notice for some time.

Personally I wouldn't trust any utterances from M$ on the state of play, simply because they have to much vested interest in their big picture and practically no interest in mine!
