Windows freezes after WindowsUpdate if old ZoneAlarm installed
Not certain which of these patches did it, but my recent WindowsUpdate froze my Windows98SE PC at boot until I prevented ZoneAlarm from starting.

The patches were:
- Security Update for Windows 98 (KB891711)
- Security Update for Windows 98 (KB888113)
- Security Update for Windows 98 (KB896358)
- Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (KB883939)

Uninstalling ZoneAlarm and installing the latest version cures it, but most people will not know how to get their PCs to boot to have a chance to do that.

I doubt this will make the headlines. Nobody expects patches from Microsoft to improve anything. Not that Microsoft is selling its own firewall, we can expect them to take every opportunity to hurt ZoneAlarm.
