If it were so, it might be

Alas for Don's thesis, these were both in the queue before Microsoft took the existing SPF protocol and added their own secret sauce to it.

In fact, Microsoft's blocking of these and of SPF is the main reason that we've lost about a year in the process.

Of course, it's rather moot since none of them materially address the majority of spam today.
