Excuses to promote un-accountability
``The multimillion-dollar cost of complying with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act is diverting spending away from protecting against other security threats, according to a new report.''

The Information Security Forum, an international security association, said Monday that it calculates that many of its members expect to spend more than $10 million on information security controls to comply with regulations laid down by Sarbanes-Oxley. ''

The SOX was put into effect to make it difficult for firms to COOK the books. There should be ACCOUNTABILITY here. Nobody should be against this, except from people what are cooking currently their books.

How is it again that implementing better record keeping practices can make security worse? And WHY security was NOT there even BEFORE SOX went into effect? There was NO security infrastructure before?

This whole noise seems to be stired by people promoting less clarity and accountability under the pretext of the 'security' cost.

It seems that SOME PEOPLE in large corporations do not like accountability and that security has always been an aftertought....

I cannot understand again this whole security problem that corporations have.

They can firewall themselves out of the 'hostile' Internet and use encryprtion and authentication for the secure transactions with legal users. In the UNIX world at least this is NOT MORE expensive that doing daily operations. It must be the FLIMSY ms windows clients and data centers creating ALL the trouble.

Play now pay later. And later is now....
