Octol, what a radical and unique idea. Well, actually you might want to briefly ponder the idea that you don't know what you are talking about. Well, for example ponder this gem of yours:
"Enough is enough! It's time the bureaucrats learn that just because something CAN be taxed doesn't mean it SHOULD be taxed. They also need to learn that unlimited taxation on everyone and everything in sight is not their god-given right."
OK, sit down now. Are you ready? Here it is. Bureaucrats do not tax anyone in this country. What? Yeah, that's right they don't. You see something called taxing authorities levy taxes. These are bodies that are given authority by a higher authority. Local jurisdictions get the power from counties or states who get the power from their constitutions, just like the federal congress gets its taxing authority from the federal constitution. All of these bodies are called lawmakers and they both make laws and levy taxes.
OK, we got that out of the way, so we can say "Enough is enough!" or something really flashy like that. "Its time the lawmakers learn that just because something CAN be taxed doesn't mean it SHOULD be taxed." Actually, while the power is not their god-given right, it is their constitutionally given right and they try and figure what citizens need and want from their government and how much (and whom) to tax to pay for it. There are of course other ways to raise revenues and they do that too. But, of course, it is a balancing act. Tax (raise revenue) and spend. You need to get to the revenue side of the equation by attacking the spending side. Now, we're talking. Problem is I didn't see even one modest suggestion for spending cuts either in your local jurisdiction or at any other level. Now, be good enough for us, please and sit down and make us a list of all the spending cuts (and how much that reduces taxes) for each of your jurisdictions. How about police, fire, libraries, health, social services, child care, airports, roads, bridges, mass transit, air controllers, food inspection, disease control, Oh man are we on a roll, how about defense, intelligence, of course bureaucrat (and lawmaker) salaries, crime agencies, environmental protection, zoning agencies, OK. We got enough now to reduce taxes seriously. I feel better already. Heck, we won't even have to tax internet activities now! - Posted by: Don Bradley Posted on: 01/11/04 You are currently: a Guest | Members login | Terms of Use
