Linux gives you the keys you need, and no others.
You have misrepresented the Linux security model - it does not get in the way of the user at all. And if you must sing the virtues of the Windows model, then I should point out that the vast majority of zombie PCs are Windows machines.

Any computer connected to the Internet should at least strive to protect itself against a "remote root access" compromise. If your machine has sacrificed that much in the cause of "features over security" then I sincerely hope that you don't engage in e-commerce or online banking. Otherwise we will see *precisely* how quickly you and your money are parted... wink.
