Neetd to be more technical, logical or funnier at least.
``Just so that you understand, I use MS products because they work for me. I generally like the way the OS works, and I think that MS Office is the best suite of business apps on the market.''

good for you. Although I speak for myself here, nobody cares what you use really neither does it make any difference in the actual quality of this s/w. Some people really like to use cars made in their country for exactly the same reasons you mentioned. The truth is that some cars have a track record of resiliency, reliability, milesage/mile, etc. that is hard to beat. I like to chose solutions based on the performance/cost. To me UNIX has the best ratio.

``As for applying patches, I keep my systems up to date. Takes very little time. Virtually no effort. I have yet to finish one of those gruelling patch sessions gasping for air.''

Good for you again. How many systems are you maintaining and what is your Internet connection? If you use dial-up from home, even patching ONE pc takes hours. If you have 100s or 1000s of PCs at work, then let me know HOW QUICKLY you can patch them up to go PRODUCTION again. You need to test the patches with your apps and if the patch breaks something you need to find workrounds. Isn't it simple ? No hectic schedule, right?

``All of that aside, your attempted deflection of problems from open source to MS proves to me that you are highly insecure about your decision to use open source software. I, on the otherhand, have no such insecurities. You won't find a single post from me deflecting MS problems to open source. I know that NO software is perfect.''

I sure hope that your IT skills are better than your psychoanalysis ones. If they are similar then good luck to the people you work for.

``Really, Mr. T, you chose your path, be confident in it. Don't just say you're confident, prove it.''

I chose my 'path' based on TECHNICAL information which I evaluate. My Ph.D in CS and my experience working in high-end computation server and communication environment has given me all the proof on my practical and analytical abilities.

Again, I kick around MS's s/w because it is a cheap piece of trash with a slizy veneer. To me the shoddiness is CLEAR as I know the internals of the said s/w and the internals of ALTERNATIVE solutions. I prefer the alternative solutions due to their technical superiority and NOT based on their appearance, the tediousness of the GUI, or the num of colors, etc.

If you are confident or not in your choices, I do not really care. These are YOUR problems.

If you need help in evaluating solutions or technology based on their technical merits, then I can help you out. Just ask for help.

BTW, in your answer you need to use some common sense at least, as I can see much of a computer technical background. You may be some scientist of sorts (biology? or medicine?) using a PC at your office with excell etc. This is NOT what computers are ONLY about.

If you cannot be technical, or logical at least be funny. Otherwise there is NO reason for people to waste their time reading your postings.
