Howdy there
``You can't help yourself, can you...
news of a bug in some open source software forces you to try to deflect the spotlight to your hated enemy, MS. ''

What an astoute observer! WHERE did you notice my hatred of MS? Can you point that out to me?

``How does your linked article make this open source vulnerability any less serious? Are you really that insecure in your decision to use open source?''

It keeps things into PERSPECTIVE: zlib has all and all 3 bugs in its entire lifetime and it has been used pervasively, even by MANY ms apps themselves. On the contrary, ms apps and windows keep failing left and right and need the massive re-re-... patchings over and over again.

I do use open source apps, such as, [x]emacs, firefox, LaTeX, gnuplot, KDE, Gnome, Ghostview, GCC, etc. and I FEEL VERY CONFIDENT on their quality. They have a solid track record. They do have defects but, as in the case of zlib the CORRECTION is about to get out.

I would feel very uncomfortable using MS apps to carry out my work:

- I don't want to have COMPATIBILITY problems when I use diff version of ms office apps or diff platform.

- I don't want to waste my time to re-create documents from apps that crashed and never saved the last changes.

- I DO NOT WANT to have to apply 250 MB Beta patches to a system that has been proven that it can RESIST correction almost intelligently

- I am NOT an idiot to PAY LOADS of MONEY so that I can suffer the ABOVE, all the while I can do ALL my work with s/w that costs $ZERO and is FAR MORE SECURE, STABLE and MORE FUNCTIONAL.

- ETC.

You have made your choices to pay loads of $$$ so that you can enjoy all the above experiences ... wink

I lough at the flimiseness and mickey-mouse quality of the ms windows. That's why for kicks I EXPOSE its demerits OFTEN.

And what is to you if MS sells trash for high $$$ and you need to stick it out to defend them? Do you have any stake in their business? I would understand if you did... I cannot understand though people who try to defend ms's s/w for NO real reason. They are the try fools.

BTW did you apply the latest critical pathces? Better get busy or someone may encrypt your files as you read this ....

work now Ferrara, work ...
