ask for ID. It's part of the contract (or was).
If they ask for ID, people may as well pay with a check, then there goes the whole swipe and go idea.
I like the idea of a fingerprint swipe, but what happens when someone get their hands treated at a spa, or someone works on their car and rubs their fingers raw, or just had a swim in the ocean and have prune-y fingers.
