That NO OS is safe. IF Linux was mainstream and was, by that virtue, forced to allow all the addins the 'normal internet population' wants, it would be just as subject to the malware writers and [being mainstream] would then actually BE the subject of their focus. How many of the typical Internet users would be dumb enough to leave their Linux systems open and outside software unpatched? Yet, the internet businesses would fail if not for them.
It's a sad thing ... but, hopefully folks can wake up and try to DEAL with the real problems (education / law enforcement) as opposed to just OS bashing?
