Paid people are also very talented
Ok, linux lovers. The pyramids were built using skilled labor and it was paid for. No slave had the intelligence to use trig to align the structure with the Dog Star, Sirius. They also had to be craftsmen to do finishing work. No Pharoah would invest that kind of education in a slave.

Paid labor has longer lasting power than volunteer labor. Less burnout. Look at any non-profit organization. The officers are a wreck in 1-2 years. You cannot get the people to do the necessary boring work. There is no paycheck held over their head to enforce disipline. That gets old after awhile.

If the open source were to construct pyramids, they would fork into cubes, spheres and polyhedrons. They would leave a legacy at the archeology site with many large glass pitchers with a smile face on the side. It would be the valley of the Koolaidius. There would be many skulls laying around with cracks in them suggesting working as a team was not practiced. However their sphinx had the head of Linus and the body of a bird with flippers. Inside one of the structures was a sarcophagus with a mummy. In his hands was a book with a title, How to Open Source Everything for Dummies.
