Re: I don't see a difference
It is rationalization. If Linux were as popular as Windows, there would be a good number of hacks.

There are already are. I say that a single hack is too many. The point, though, is that there would still not be a compable number to Windows. I have posted reasons for this before, and it looks like someone else has posted a good one here. But, if you can prove otherwise, please do so. And kindly don't just restate the point by saying, "more people would be trying because it's a bigger target." That's circular. Please explain the systemic flaws in the Linux architecture.

Do you honestly think these computer users are just going to switch browsers when a security hole is found?

Well, yes, obviously they would. I did. I do on Linux. I do on Windows, to the extent that the Redmond overlords allow. Why wouldn't someone do that? Really, is a new browser that hard to learn? Not at all. My switch from IE to Firebird was absolutely painless, and Firebird is so far past IE that it's just ridiculous. So, yeah, this isn't rationalization. It's everyday life, being lived and made better by people realizing that there are options.

Better yet, do you think they would know there is a security hole and know to upgrade or patch?

Yes. For example, when one of our professors discovered that his fully patched Windows 2000 Server box had been hacked and converted to serve illegal movie rips and porn. You bet he knew. It was an IE exploit. So, again, would you mind posting those instructions for uninstalling IE? Thanks...
