I do see a difference...
For some reasons every MS lover or Linux hater thinks there will be a billion exploits found the second everyone starts using Linux. Linux already controls the majority of the server market. But let's not just look at holes and viruses/trojens....let's look at the real reason why MS has such a bad reputation in security....billions and billions of dollars lost thanks to insane worms that travel till the end of time infecting everything and everyone.

Linux has already been tested on several situations with potential massive worm attacks (and those are the types that cause billions in damage and halt networks)...do you remember slapper? That is the only worm I can recall that had the potential to do sevear damage in the Linux world. All the MS zealots where freaking out having joy gasims because they thought Linux would finally be the source of a billion dollar worm spreading...it lasted a week. We have a lot more ssh holes and ssl holes that are root exploitable than apache...but ssh gets patched faster and quicker because it doesn't usually depend on massive transactions a day...because customers or employees don't usually depend on it for their work...and if they do the chances of a patch breaking software running through it is slim.

We all know the source of the billion dollar worms in the MS world. RPC, IIS, IE, and Outlook address book....why in gods name would a client have RPC running by default? The only port open on a true Linux client would be X11 port 6000...that's been around for how long?..and how many worms spread by it? Apache isn't Linux and it even runs on Windows so there is no point in mentioning it but its record speaks for its self...IE? In the Linux world I have five browsers to choose from and thats in a default install...true most run on the same engine but Netscape and Mozilla are NOT linux only apps...so even if a worm started to spread via them you can not attribute them to the detriment of Linux. Only konq and galeon worms/holes would qualify and there are few if any .

My point is Linux is built different...and while MS touts security through obscurity (which we have seen doesn't work)...we tout security through freedom of choice. To target the Linux platform for a worm you have to look at all the client applications running on it and there are a ton.And because Linux is so segmented both from one user's PC to the other and from one layer of Linux to the next. Having a hole in KDE libs probably will not affect Konq or KMail...this is all not even mentioning that there are a billion different versions of kmail out there because of the different distros...

MS zealots have gone on and on about this reason why Linux "looks" more secure. The simple truth is by the time you can test your theory in real life MS will have already lost and your empire of MCSE certs will be practically worthless (as if they wheren't already thanks to thousands of out of work IT)...
